Benjamin E. Custer is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at the American University in Bulgaria. His research interests include social psychology, media psychology, evolutionary psychology, and relationship science.

Before his academic post at the American University in Bulgaria, Ben lived and worked in Plovdiv, Bulgaria as a two-time Fulbright grantee (2021-2022, 2022-2023). He holds an undergraduate degree in mass communications from Texas A&M University—Texarkana, a master’s degree in communication from Stanford University, and a PhD in communication from the University of Arizona.

Before pursuing a career in academia, Ben worked as a journalist.
